And it isn’t too bad. Not great, but not too bad. LeBlanc is dry, Chris Evans isn’t as terrible as I had worried. I think they’re trying to fill big shoes by keeping the same format and shtick.
It’s kind of working. You can kind of sense that the studio audience wasn’t too into it. Star in a Reasonably Priced Car and the Stig lap (unfortunately) remain but so do the challenges which are pretty fun to watch.
Verdict: will likely improve but enthusiasts are lucky to have two (potentially) good motoring shows.

I think the audience wasn’t expecting to be cued to applause so many times.

Just finished watching it myself. Not a fan of Evans, but honestly I think they could have a big improvement if they just turned down his mic a bit when they mixed the audio. The contrast with LeBlanc’s much calmer presentation doesn’t serve either of them well.
I found the challenges pretty awful actually. Hopelessly scripted without even the pretence any emergent adventure unfolding (this was definitely a problem on the old show as well, but disappointed to see they thought it was something to stick with).

I loved the woman with the huge frown on her face in the crowd reaction shot when people were asked if they wanted to meet the star in a reasonably priced car.

I only get a depth of character with LeBlanc, but I get a coked up script fiend with Evans. Yes, everything is scripted but top gear back then did it so well that nobody knew.

My thoughts too. In time the wrinkles will iron out I’m sure. I think they should’ve just done a whole new format style.
Evans’ jokes about Clarkson and old Top Gear fell flat on their face, which is good.

They were dumb, but I’m glad to see they’re still there.
To me at least, a show of nothing but tests of supercars sounds boring. The challenges (which will improve) make it interesting

It looked like a funeral.
You could tell they were bummed it’s not the old crew but when you’ve been on the audience waiting list for a few years, you don’t pass it up when your number’s called I guess

I think Evans tried to make it like a talk show where everyone is supposed to clap for this and that. Barring that, it felt like a combo of Fifth Gear and the last couple of series where things weren’t so fresh.

Clarkson and co. felt more scripted towards the end of their run for me because they’ve been recycling the same jokes and antics for years.

But they still had their personality within the show. Evans is a workaholic emotionless being.
